I still hold the line

I hold…
Crushed by the weight of my burden,
Griping fingers tight,
I do as I am told,
Stand my ground and
Prepare to fight…

I hold…
Though the lightest thought gain weight,
Soon they wither into oblivion,
Devoured by my own mind,
For a second I blink,
Feel the walls cade.

But I hold…
For I stood alone for too long,
Now I know my past is gone,
Carried a long journey, crossed and done,
I see the men and women,
With the same shield and dented armor,
They nod…

I hold…
But not alone…
