We still stand

I am an old soul
In me the wisdom and pain of hundreds lay,
The story foretold,
Spoken a thousand times.

A narrative you well know,
Yet many ignore,
My voice,
The speech of many,
Who fought our own reflection.

To you, merely an inconvenience,
To us our scars,
Not visible,
Tell the tale of survival…

Left, in the shadows of our own mind,
To the swing of the pendulum,
To rise or to fall,
From the darkness of our own thoughts and creation,
To tell you all,
We survived our own damnation,
And we do still stand tall…
